MOVEMENT-SYSTEMS 2021.22
New hybrid picking system ensures optimum loading and unloading. A custom warehouse management system has been developed for GRASS, featuring a material flow computer, forklift control system and mobile device integration. This system operates independently in the incoming goods area: when trucks dock, the fully automatic system accepts the pallets via a state-of-the-art floor conveyor without human intervention. A truck can be completely unloaded in just two minutes with this process. For outgoing goods, orders are presequenced using two separate, double-deep shipping buffers. Items for an order are re- moved "heavy before light" in order to optimise loading onto the truck. State-of-the-art customer and logistics centre With a total investment of 70 million euros, the customer and logistics centre is not only the largest investment in the company's history, but also the most modern distribution centre in the Würth Group. The figures for the new logistics site speak for themselves: The eleven-aisle high-bay warehouse is 22 levels tall, with over 600 racking uprights to accommodate almost 38,000 pallet storage spaces. The site incor- porates over 5000 tonnes of steel, and the longest façade measures more than 180 metres. The building covers an area of 11,150 m 2 . Since 2004, GRASS has been part of the international Würth Group, which has an annual turnover of more than 14 billion euros and is the world leader in the trade of assembly and fastening materials. 5
