Textured calm

Finish replaced Ornament.

Colours become calmer, shapes more gentle. It’s no wonder that the surface becomes the focal point. The ornament is back, however, not as a pattern or decoration and certainly not as a brash eye-catcher. It's become tactile.

Fine reliefs and gentle irregularities lend the materials depth without being imposing. Textures become silent companions that only unfold their full effect from close up, inviting you to touch.

Vertical structures, slats, grooves, strips, recesses, fluted back panels, matt metal, rough stone, structured fronts: almost everywhere, there were surfaces that not only wanted to be looked at, but also touched.

Valdesign used materiality as a narrative tool. At Antoniolupi, this attention to detail in the bathroom has almost been taken to the extreme in terms of craftsmanship: unique items, hammered structures, minimal lines, maximum personalisation. The claim: creating something special without being brash, but accurate.
