The outdoors becomes cosy.
The lines between inside and out blurred in as early as 2022. The trend report back then described "Outside in" like outdoor solutions conquering living spaces and outdoor furniture becoming increasingly similar to its counterparts in the living room. In 2026, this trend has matured. Outdoor is no longer just an add-on, but part of a comprehensive living logic.
Convenience
Many manufacturers showed outdoor kitchens or outdoor-compatible modules that no longer looked like traditional stainless steel barbecue areas, but like indoor kitchens. Arrital’s outdoor kitchens impressed with a practicality almost matching that of office furniture. With “Outdoor Cooking”, Miele presented a modular outdoor kitchen system with modules and accessories that can be combined as desired depending on space, needs and lifestyle.
At SCIC, the outdoor kitchen has been equipped a flying top and made particularly flexible, which was also the main focus of the design, as architect Sergio Catellani emphasised. He is co-founder of the Ballabeni & Catellani studio, which co-designed the Canossa Outdoor and Rossena Outdoor outdoor kitchens in cooperation with SCIC. However, other exhibitors also made it clear that outdoor spaces must not function as an exception, but as an extension of the home.
"Inside Out Comfort" means:
kitchens move outside while preserving their homeliness. Colours, surfaces, planning logic and demands to comfort are moving beyond the threshold.
